Medvode is a satellite
town of the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Vicinity of the
capital is attractive for the housing developments, so the
investor asked us to prepare a study of a plot with a complex
geometry both in floor plan as in relief of the terrain. On
site there is an existing office building that needs to be
renovated, converted to housing programme and incorporated
into the new complex. Our answer is a dynamic composition
of two square housing blocks that form a a piazzetta at the
lower plateau and establish nice green areas on the upper
plateau. The shape of new buildings is defined by the declination
of the corners on the top floor, thus responding to the nearby
buildings with prevalent sloped roofs. At the same time, sloped
corners bring some tectonic feel into the composition, giving
this small project a little more weight.
