At
present perhaps a surprising dominant feature in Prekmurje plains,
the structure deals with the question of context on levels seldom
encountered in architectural practice. The building stands in
the middle of wheat fields, yet on the edge of a large industrial
complex. It is less than a mile from the city, yet close to
the future highway, marking the inevitable direction of future
city growth. In an almost mathematical abstraction of rhythms,
the north volume communicates with nature and reflect the urban,
while the south volume establishes a dialogue with the multifunctional
and polychrome character of the industry. Headquarters of a
large construction company, the building stands on the edge
of the company's industrial complex, dominating the site. The
north-oriented offices facade offers the benefit of natural
light and the view of open fields, the service areas clad in
metal panels face the industrial area on the south. A central
wall connects and divides both areas, serving as the axis of
the plan form and the frame of the structure. The structural
system that combines vertical steel frame and horizontal reinforced
concrete structure as well as innovative use of facade allow
the building to relate to both countryside and industry in a
clear and specific architectural expression.
